Lead Sell Grow - The Human Experience

How to Set Goals With Purpose and Actually Achieve Them

Episode Summary

We hear it all the time: Setting goals is the first step to achieving success, but what if you were told that you have been taught how to set goals the wrong way? Most people write out a list of things they want to achieve but don’t actually take the action to get there. We hear about New Years' Resolutions every year, but some people have the same goals every single year, and never actually achieve them. The problem is self-image. If we don’t believe we can achieve something, we will continue to make excuses for why it can’t happen. Another mistake people make is basing goals on the past. The past does not determine the future. Zig Ziglar often asked, "Are you a meaningful specific or a wandering generality?" We all want to be meaningful specifics, yet so many people wander around every day wondering where the time has gone and why they can’t achieve their goals. You have to have a purpose, go after it, and then you will start attracting more of what you want to achieve. In this episode, Eric shares that he had a New Years' Resolution of starting a podcast, and this was his goal for 3 whole years before he actually took action. To finally achieve the goals he had for himself, Eric made 3 lists that eventually laid out exactly what he needed to do each day to be on the path to reaching those goals. He walks you through how to create these lists today, so make sure to take notes!
